A Farmers Wife and Life

Walk (or run) with me as I share our story.

Traveling the Waitaki Valley February 24, 2012

Traveling from Twizel, we drive down through a splendid scenery, the Waitaki Valley, in North Otago. We find  views here that are just incredible with hills, the valley, as well as the beautiful Waitaki River running alongside of us. We stop for a brief moment to see the Aviemore Dam on Lake Aviemore. This dam is a part of a series of dams built along this river to provide storage and flow control. At Aviemore Dam we see Aviemore Hydro Station which produces enough power for 120,000 New Zealand homes. Being the fourth station built on the Waitaki it boasts the largest generators in the country with its rotors being nearly 8 meters in diameter and weighing in at 210 tonnes.

From here we’re on our way to Oamaru… where, once again… I fall in love.
